ATTENDANCE CODES & INFORMATION

Student time in classes with your teacher is VERY IMPORTANT - Your goal should be to avoid getting any NCA’s (No Credit Awarded) in any class.

What is an NCA?

An NCA means the student has 5 or more absences in a class in a trimester. Remember students are only allowed to have 4 absences or less in a trimester. NCA means the student will not receive credit in that class due to attendance until the student completes the required seat time that is needed to recover that credit.

Absences that count towards NCA include: 

  • Unverified (A)
  • Parent Excused (P)
  • Illness (V)
  • Truancy (C)

Absences that do not count towards NCA and may require documentation include:

  • School sponsored activities (S) 
  • Medical (M) 
  • Legal appointments or court hearings (L) 
  • Death in family/bereavement (B) 
  • Religious observation (R) 
  • Administratively Approved (D) 
  • In-school/out-of-school suspension (I or O)

NCA Recovery

Students receive an NCA (No Credit Attendance) once they accrue five or more absences (coded A, V, or P in PowerSchools) in any class.

Students at Nampa High School have two ways to make up these absences.

  1. Attend Friday School
    • Friday Schools are offered on select Fridays three times each trimester. Friday Schools run from 8-11 AM on the days it is offered.
    • Students must be present for the entire time in order to receive credit.
    • Successful completion of one Friday School erases an NCA for one class of the student’s choosing.
  2. WIN Attendance
    • Students can also make up missed attendance by attending WIN. Any week (Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday) that a student has perfect attendance in WIN one absence will be removed in the class of their choosing.
    • Students with perfect attendance in WIN for the entire trimester can have all of their NCAs removed.
    • Students must complete the WIN Attendance Microsoft Form sent via email at the end of each trimester to apply for WIN Attendance Forgiveness.
      • § The form must be completed by the deadline assigned by NHS Administration

Students are only eligible to recover an NCA in each class once per term. If a student attends Friday School OR Applies for WIN Attendance forgiveness and then earns the NCA back in that class, it will not be corrected a second time without speaking to an administrator.

ADMINISTRATION APPROVED ABSENCES

Administrator Approved Travel Requests

Nampa understands there may be occasions in which your student will not be able to attend school (ie. family vacation, college visits, club sporting events, rodeos, etc.) We are happy to work with you to excuse these when possible. 

Parents/guardians will need to complete and submit the Administrator Approved Travel Requests Form (linked below). This will provide Admin with the reason for the students’ absence and allow for the consideration of administrative approval.
 
*Admin approval will not count towards an NCA*
Forms must be completed 10 days PRIOR to the student being absent.

If you plan to be gone longer than 10 days, please contact our school to make the necessary arrangements.

Most important is that any missed learning by the student needs to be completed and shown to their teachers.
